Educational Charters
Every school wants to show it students the workings of one of the biggest commercial engines and job suppliers in the region. It is important from a career aspect as well as in respect of the geographic, economic, political, social, environmental and tourism aspects of their education.

Vessel used : - Port Sail has acquired the famous flying boat tender Wagtail in order to meet the massive demand for educational charters of the Port of Richards Bay. Wagtail is a real life operating museum all on its own.

Port sail collaborates with the
National Ports Authority (NPA), the UNIZUL Science Centre, KZN Wildlife and the Bird Guides with respect to such tours.

Wagtail can accommodate 30 learners and the Yacht Sweet Waters 20, making
50 Students in total per trip

The trip lasts one hour and covers the small craft harbour containing local and visiting yachts and passenger vessels, the Pilot Boat, Tugs, Bunker barge, Dredger and survey craft. Then it is out into the main channel showing the harbour entrance, the sanctuary area, Naval Island, the Casuarinas, the bunker berth and tanks, Control towers, the biggest coal exporting and also the biggest wood exporting terminals in the world.

Sighting of Fish eagles and dolphins is a common occurrence, The trip is accompanied by an entertaining running commentary.  The trip is confined to the harbour and does not go out to sea so the chances of getting seasick are virtually entirely eliminated.

For groups of 80 or more the trips are split in two and the group in waiting get to see the famous
NPA  corporate video.

The vessels  used are licensed as passenger vessels with the Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) and are covered by insurances including passenger liability and third party cover. Nonetheless your
charter ticket still contains the standard Lloyds indemnity. The capital costs (about 3,5 mil) as well as the survey and licensing costs far exceed that of the bus transport used to get to Richards Bay, yet our prices are normally far less than the transport costs for getting to Richards bay.  The cost is R 30.00 per student for primary school children and R40.00 per pupil for High School children. These costs may well be reduced if there is a sufficient volume of inquiries in the first two years.
